You have to laugh otherwise you'd cry!
I put the hypothetical question to the organisation that oversees doctors, that question being, if the police visited them under the ACPO GMC NMC undertakings, and infomed them that a number of doctors were under investigation for child related offences, did they inform the trusts who employed the doctos, the response was:
"well contrary to popular belief, we don't actually know where any doctor works at any given time" WHAT? Why? It should be mandatory that all doctors give their employment details to their governing body surely??????
So I then ask what steps they take (mot mentioning specialist info which gives all the details as to where a doctor is employed DUH) to protect the public outside of IOP which takes FOREVER, the answer was "well we write to the doctor informing them of our intentions to contact their trust and the reasons why and could they tell us who they work for" OK, by this time I am mildly hysterical, "whilst being mildly hysterical, I then asked if it occurred to them that there was no incentive for a doctor to respond immediately to their request and that in fact by undertaking such an action they were tipping the doctor off,as happened here in Stafford, when the doctor took off to the USA as soon as she got the letter, extradition taking 10 years to get her back to face manslaughter charges, the response was "hmmm you've got a point" God help us!
I then point out that if the police are taking action, they will know where those they are taking action against will be, so why not ask them ... that met with silence and the phrase "that's a good idea" By this time I am thinking "beam me up Scotty"
Is there any competency anywhere within any of these beauracratic organisations?
I wonder what the public would have to say if they found out that because of all this red tape, deference and incompetency that a doctor, who works with children, could remain in situ for a considerable amount of time before the public is protected! Any other profession would be suspended at the start of any such investigation, why doctors are treated so differently is something that needs changing, it's a joke.
